On July 8th, I attended a class at the Shala on the new moon. Ashtangis rest on the full and new moon so the class was on Journaling and Meditation. On this day we focused on the idea of “I am”. Krista’s comments helped me remember a meditation I used to practice a lot a long time ago:
What time is it? The time is now.
Where am I? I am here.
Who am I? I am that I am.
What am I doing? I am watching.
What am I watching? The breath.
This practice would be followed by watching the breath using the Hamsa technique. Hamsa means “I am that I am”. Concentrate on “ham” during the in breath and “sa” on the out breath. At the end of this practice, I would feel quieted and calm.
Here is an article that was translated from a conversation with Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi on this subject. “Who am I?”.
